UM draws despite Maloney hat trick

Jonathan Maloney scored all three Falcon goals as the University of Montevallo and Saint Leo University battled to a 3-3 tie, in a non-conference men’s soccer match in Saint Leo, Fla. Friday._

UM trailed 2-0 when Maloney scored his first goal with assists from Milan Pualic and Glenn Murphy just before halftime. Maloney then tied the match in the 52nd minute via an assist from James Ward.

UM took a 3-2 lead with Maloney’s third goal of the night and seventh of the season in the 56th minute of play. Murphy was credited with his second assist for the game and sixth assist for the season._

The score held until the 88th minute when SLU tied the match._

SLU held a 22-12 advantage in shots and a 4-2 shot advantage in the overtime periods. Neither team had a shot on goal in overtime. Maloney led UM with eight shots, five on goal.__

Melford James Jr. collected eight saves in net.__

UM (3-1-1) closes its road trip to Florida with a non-conference match Sunday at Eckerd College.
