UM anglers fare well at nationals

The inaugural University of Montevallo bass team finished 15th over the weekend at the 2007 National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship on Lake Lewisville in Texas.

Team club President Casey Crumpton of Columbiana, and Clent Davis or Maplesville, teamed up to lead all competition with a first day catch of five

fish, weighing 13.24 pounds. However, the team did not register a catch on the second day, finishing 15th overall. The third team member is Joshua Lamar of Columbiana.

Helena native Rusty Jones and Pelham native Daniel Statum caught four fish to lead the University of Alabama team to a 12th-place start at the championship Thursday with a weight of 7.78 pounds.

The pair went on to land 10.42 pounds Friday to put them in fifth place with a two-day total of nine bass, 10.20 pounds.
