Indian Springs wins area tourney

Tenth ranked Indian Springs (18-5) moved one step closer to the Elite Eight in Pelham Monday, as they rallied back to defeat Leeds in three games to take the Class 3A, Area 7 and earn the right to host Saturday’s regional tournament.

Jillian Theibert, named MVP for the tournament, led Indian Springs with 35 assists and helped them rally back from early 18-25 and 19-2 loses to Leeds to win three straight (25-19, 25-13 and 15-6) for the win.

-Montevallo wins Area 6: Lady Bulldogs of Montevallo (26-3) continue to roll, as they defeated Marbury Monday to capture the Class 3A, Area 6 title at home in Susie Dement Gymnasium.

After Jordan Archer led her team to a vengeance over Isabella in a three game sweep last Thursday, she earned MVP honors while collecting 14 digs and eight assists in a four-game win over Marbury (25-8, 25-22, 23-25, 25-10).

Kylie Stansell, the Lady Bulldogs’ steady hand at serving, collected seven aces in the match. Montevallo took the weekend off to prepare for hosting Monday’s tournament.

Montevallo advances to the regional tournament to be played Saturday at Indian Springs. They will meet the runner-up of Area 8.

Marbury advances to the regional after defeating Calera (7-13) to start the tournament in four games (14-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-5).

Katelyn Dean earned All-Tournament Team honors for Calera for her four kills, six aces, four digs and one blockin the match. Senior setter Lauren Parker had 11 assists for Calera.

Calera fell on senior night Thursday in three games (25-19, 25-12 and 25-9) against Shelby County.

-Vincent earns spot in regional: Although the Yellow Jackets couldn’t hold on to compete with Shades Mountain Monday night, Vincent secured its place in a regional with a five-game victory over Thorsby (25-16, 22-25, 14-25, 25-21 and 15-12) to start the tournament.

Shavon Keller led Vincent with seven kills, seven assists, 17 digs and nine aces, while Amber Shaw added six kills, 11 assists and seven aces.

The Lady Yellow Jackets tuned up for the semi-final match against Thorsby by beating them on Thursday 25-19 and 25-19. Keller had 11 digs and four aces in that match.

-Oak Mountain rallies back to end Vestavia’s season: The Oak Mountain Lady Eagles are trying on their ball gowns and dancing shoes as dreams of being a Cinderella sleeper team in this year’s regional grow.

The Lady Eagles rallied back from a two-game deficit after losing 22-25 and 22-25 to knock-off the eighth-ranked Lady Rebels 25-19, 25-21 and 15-10.

Devin Von Pingel had 17 kills and eight blocks to help lead the way, while Christen Clements and Kelsey Risher added 16 and 11 kills respectively. Jessica Cooley had 56 set assists, while Sarah Morton led the way on defense with 27 digs.

Oak Mountain (23-25) met Hoover for the Class 6A, Area 11 championship Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.

Hoover ended Spain Park’s season with a 25-12, 25-9 and 25-18 win to reach the final.

-Championship Tuesday: Briarwood, Chelsea, Shelby County, Thompson and Pelham also each competed for their respective area titles on Tuesday. Results were not available for print.
