FROM STAFF REPORTS

Dudley Pendleton was recently honored by the city of Montevallo before the annual Fire Prevention Parade on Oct.13.

Pendleton and Pedro, his dog, were the inspiration for the Montevallo Dudley and Pedro Pendleton Fire Hydrant Trail.

With the help and support of various organizations and by using a portion of funds approved with the help of Congressman Spencer Bachus, the city created a walking trail of 22 painted fire hydrants around the city with references to Montevallo history, school or the natural environment.

Pendleton, a Montevallo native, served for over 50 years with the Water and Sewer Departments, as a Water Board member and as Montevallo volunteer fire fighter.

Pendleton’s wife, Emily, is a retired teacher from the Shelby County school system as a teacher at Montevallo High School
