Despite beating the University of West Georgia last Tuesday, the University of Montevallo volleyball team’s hopes of making the Gulf South Conference tournament came to an end Sunday when West Georgia swept West Alabama to clinch the final spot in the tournament from the GSC East.

UM (10-26) traveled to the University of Arkansas-Monticello Classic over the weekend and picked up a pair of wins over UAM (20-30, 30-26, 30-28 and 30-23) and Ouachita Baptist University (30-24, 30-24 and 30-27).

Lauren Markle had 23 kills in the tournament, while Joy Peschman had 16 digs and 79 set assists. Both were named to the all-tournament team.

UM travels to Valdosta State University Friday and the University of West Florida Saturday to conclude the season
