NORTH SHELBY – Barrett Trotter closed out his final regular season game in Briarwood blue with another school passing record Friday, as he led the Lions to a 41-18 victory over Jackson-Olin.

Trotter collected five first-half touchdowns and 247 yards passing to take ownership of the Briarwood career passing record with 6,820 yards, passing Joe Craddock’s record of 6,770 set from 2000-03.

Jackson-Olin struck first with a 65-yard touchdown pass from Darrick Colvin to Mardrecus Bel, but Trotter answered with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Jack Wood, a 52-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Gordon and a 28-yard pass to William Hoke to put the Lions up 21-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Colvin added another touchdown for J.O. on a 4-yard run to open the second quarter, before Trotter tossed a 33-yard pass for Gordon’s 13th touchdown of the season, breaking Tim Castille’s record of most touchdown receptions in a season. Trotter closed out his senior night game with a 9-yard touchdown to Hoke, who later caught a third touchdown from Paul Barber, earning his own spot in the record books, tied for most touchdown catches in a game.

Trotter’s passing yards record is the fourth one he has broken this season after breaking Craddock’s career attempts record against Chelsea on Oct. 26 and the career touchdowns record the previous week. He is still in line to collect at least one more record, as his passing percentage, 64.2, for a season is already ahead of Craddock’s record 62.6 percent in 2000.

The win also gave Briarwood its first undefeated regular season since 1998. The Lions host Butler Friday for the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
