Heroes honored: Medals presented at halftime ceremonies

Ceremonies honoring Shelby County military heroes were held at three high school football games last Friday night.

The Let Freedom Ring Ceremonies recognized Alabama military personnel deployed in Operations Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Honorees and their families were presented with special Liberty Bell Medals by local dignitaries at halftime of the Vincent-Montevallo, Thompson-Homewood, and Chelsea-Shelby County games.

The event was sponsored by the Shelby County Commission, Shelby County Board of Education, Shelby County Reporter, Alabama Legislature, Alabama Sports Festival and the Governor’s Commission on Physical Fitness.

The high school bands and ROTC units assisted in the presentations.
