James R. Tate

James R. Tate, of Harpersville, age 90, passed away Nov. 7, 2007, at Columbiana Health & Rehab.

Funeral service will be at Harpersville United Methodist Church Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lori Carden and the Rev. Jerry Baker officiating. The body will lie in state from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will take place at Harpersville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Tate is survived by three sons, James Paul Tate (Gloria) of Harpersville, Gary B. Tate (Terry) of Athens and Donald E. Tate (Adriana) of Harpersville; a sister, Cora Lee Pierson of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren, Dawn Hougland (Bryan) of Harpersville, Jamie Tate (Tammy) of Vincent, Michael Tate (Carol) of Birmingham, Megan Jones (Brian) of Clanton and Kelly Tate of Birmingham; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Lauryn, Alli and Justin.

Tate was preceded in death by his wife, Odell Nixon Tate.

He retired from Kimberly Clark in 1981 with 25 years of service and was a member of Harpersville United Methodist Church since 1946. He loved his family and his church.

The pallbearers will be Ed Smith, Paul Brooks, Randall Baker, Shawn Baker, Dr. Larry Baker and Tony Baker.

The family will accept flowers or donations made to Harpersville United Methodist Church Building Fund or Lighthouse Community Church Building Fund.
