Terri “Susie” Garrett Beasley, age 44, of Alabaster died Nov. 25, 2007.

The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Alabaster. The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007 at the church with Dr. Neil Knierim and Brother Wayne Crumpton officiating.

Terri was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Vera Garrett and Earl and Martha Steele.

Survivors include Terri’s husband, Art Beasley of Alabaster; parents, Janet (John) Hebert of Helena and Terry (Marti) Garrett of Hoover; one son, Tyler Beasley of Alabaster; one daughter, Kaitlin Beasley of Alabaster; a brother, Rocky (Jamie) Garrett of Alabaster; a sister, Tammy (Michael) Taylor of Hoover; mother-in-law, Nola Beasley of Prattville; father-in-law, Al Beasley of Decatur, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Suzanne (Tom) Teems of Prattville and Sherie (Richard) Krauss of Philo, Ill.; aunts and uncles; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

Terri touched many lives through her teaching profession and community involvements. She taught sixth grade at Bumpus Middle School in Hoover before becoming a fifth grade teacher at Thompson Intermediate School in Alabaster.

Later, she became a sixth grade teacher at Thompson Middle School, where she was teaching at the time of her death. By community-wide vote, she was named the 2007 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for Shelby County.

In October, over 120 friends participated in Terri’s Race for the Cure to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Fund.

Terri was an active member of the McMannaway Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Alabaster. She cherished her many friendships at school and at church. She spent many hours at Alabaster ballparks, Thompson schools, and Shelby Academy, where her children Tyler and Kaitlin attend, to cheer for her children and students.

Terri’s family expresses special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Shelby Cancer Center and Shelby Baptist Medical Center, special thanks to her neighbors and co-workers, and special thanks to members of her Sunday School class.
