FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Helena Cub Scouts collected this year’s Christmas trees to recycle Dec. 29. Brian Romanowski, who has one Cub Scout and one son who is a Boy Scout, said it’s a good way to teach the boys how to be good stewards of their city.

“It’s our way of giving back by keeping the trees out of the landfill,” Romanowski said. “One hand washes the other.”

The Boy Scout troop in Helena sells the trees each year and, for at least the last five years, the cubs have come behind them to make sure the trees found a new home. Once collected the city helps to cut up the trees. The chippings left over then go back into city parks
