Funeral service for Marvin Muse, age 84, of Wilsonville, was at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at Fourmile Baptist Church. Burial followed at Fourmile Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Muse passed on to be with Jesus on Jan. 25, 2008, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by family and many friends.

Brother Marvin was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Neosho, Mo.

He was a lifetime resident of the Fourmile Community.

Marvin and his wife Jean Shaw Muse celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 9, 2007. He was father and daddy to daughter Judy Ingram and husband John and son Tony Muse and wife Myra, both of Fourmile.

He was granddaddy and Pop to Tracey Bentley and husband Jamie, Christy Partridge and husband Bill, Melissa Roper and husband Adam, Amy Seay and husband Daniel, and Jonathan Muse.

He was great-granddaddy to Hunter and Haven Partridge, Jamison Bentley and Adam Roper.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters Hershal Muse, Geralee Kelly, Martha Averett, Opal Williams, Leonard Alverson and Tom Alverson as well as many nieces and nephews.

Brother Marvin was a faithful member of Fourmile Baptist Church and the senior men’s Sunday school class. He served on various mission trips including hurricane disaster relief missions to South Carolina and Louisiana.

Brother Marvin was a proud Marine who served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He served in the 1st Marine division as an amphibian tractor crewman and participated in the active campaigns at Cape Gloucester, New Britain Islands, Peleliu, Palau Islands, Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands. He earned two Purple Hearts and one Medal of Valor while serving his country.

During his life in Fourmile, he and his son Tony raised cattle. He was also employed by Beaunit Mills, Mid State Farmers Co-op; he later retired from the Shelby County Highway Department after serving as a truck driver and crew chief for 16 years.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose love for his God, family and country was evident, and he will be missed very much.
