Funeral service for Josephine “Mama Jo” Carden, 87, of Shelby was at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Bolton-Letlow Chapel.

Burial followed at Spring Creek Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Carden, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 31 at a local hospital was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Shelby.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Oliver Etress, Elvin Carden and a daughter, Betty Jo Etress.

She is survived by her children, Elsie (Luke) Jones, Essie (Wormy) Blankenship, Linda (Charles Henry) Edmondson, Glenda (Yogi) Sheffield; stepsons; Edwin Carden, Alan Carden, Charles Carden, Paul Carden; 12 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
