Locals named to North-South volleyball teams

Teams and coaches for the North-South volleyball teams have been selected for the 12th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week July 14-18 in Huntsville, and several Shelby County players and coaches will be participating.

Coaches for the South staff are Carla Ragland of Thompson and Ann Schilling of Bayside Academy. On the North staff are Melissa Hammond of Lexington and Laura Burke of Bob Jones.

Players on the South squad are Whitney Billings and Whitney Hudson of Pelham, Catherine Rebarchak and Nancy Taylor of St. Paul’s, Lauren Reibe of Bayside Academy, Sarah Stout of St. James, Elizabeth Clough of Murphy, Anna Shartzer and Rebekah Raymond of Robertsdale, Akia Borders of Carroll, Samantha Butcher of Robertsdale, and Christina Hayes of Alabama Christian.

Players named to the North squad are Amy Hale of Briarwood Christian, Devin VonPingel of Oak Mountain, Chelsey Chambers of Sand Rock, Skylar Key of Curry, Alexandra Morgan of Mountain Brook, Elizabeth Neisler of Jacksonville, Loren Olive of Lexington, Naomi Wells of Grissom, Tanequa Whitman of Huntsville, Kelly Wilson of Bob Jones, Jessica Wilburn of Gaston, and Summer Wilkerson of Lawrence County.

Play begins at 2 p.m. Thursday (July 17) in the best-of-five series at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. The squad is composed of current juniors.
