State Rep. Mike Hill (R-Columbiana) was recently elected vice-chairman of the Energy Council. The council is an international organization of legislative leaders from throughout North and South America that study and develop recommendations on dealing with the major energy issues facing our world today.

“It is a real honor to represent the state of Alabama in a leadership capacity for this outstanding organization,” Hill said. “I am humbled by the responsibility that my legislative colleagues have entrusted to me.”

Rep. Hill’s election means that he will move into the position of chairman for the organization for 2008-2009.

Hill’s leadership role means Alabama, which joined the Energy Council in 1987, will be a leading voice not only in this association, but also throughout the country on developing new comprehensive energy strategies for 11 states, as well as five Canadian provinces and Venezuela.

The Energy Council, which was founded in 1975, has been characterized by Rep. Hill as being “fiercely non-partisan and goal oriented as opposed to the political bickering we often hear when energy solutions are discussed.”

“Our common interest is in the impact the energy has on our constituencies, and how we must work together to solve the problems we face today,” Rep. Hill said.

Rep. Hill has served in the Alabama House of Representatives for 22 years, where he is currently the vice-chairman of the House Banking and Insurance Committee.

Hill is president and CEO of Cahaba Title Inc.

He and his wife, Carol, reside in Columbiana
