Army Spec. Jimmy G. Knight has returned to Alaska after being deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldier is assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, a subordinate unit of the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Fort Richardson, Anchorage.

In addition, Spec. Knight has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal. The medal is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

Spec. Knight, an infantry rifleman, also has been awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.

Knight is the son of Jimmy G. Knight of Talladega and Bonnie M. Knight of Huntsville.

The specialist graduated in 1995 from Hoover High School
