Pelham High School was recently honored in several areas, including the color guard, the choir and the school’s yearbook and newspaper.

The color guard had another great competition recently at Oak Grove High School.

The junior varsity team placed second in the weekend’s Saturday competition and took first place in the Sunday competition.

The varsity team placed 1st in Saturday’s competition. During Sunday’s competition, they placed 2nd. Both of these teams competed against not only schools from the Birmingham area, but also against schools from around Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.

Pelham also had several students chosen to participate in the Alabama Vocal Association Young Voices. Those students traveling to Auburn University May 2-3 for the audition are: Amy Huey, Haley Townsend, Kaitlyn Harris, Alex Stanek, Maggie Holland and Mathew Tkacik.

The Alabama Scholastic Press Association also recently recognized the school’s newspaper, The Pacesetter, and the yearbook, The Pinnacle, for outstanding achievements. The Pacesetter was awarded a superior rating from the ASPA for its overall publication for the year. The Pinnacle was also awarded a superior rating from the ASPA for its production of the 2007 yearbook. Taylor Publishing also recognized the yearbook with an Award of Excellence honoring its accomplishments in yearbook design and coverage.

The yearbook is featured in the 2008 Yearbook Yearbook, which recognizes outstanding yearbook production across the United States, and represents the best of the best
