Pelham senior pitcher Trish Zettler (6-2) struck out 15 in a five-inning no-hitter to lead Pelham to a 1-0 victory over Friendship Christian of Nashville, Tenn. in the Nike Gulf Shores Softball Classic Monday.

Zettler walked two batters and hit another for the Panthers’ second win of the day in pool play. Christin Crocker drove in the Panthers’ run.

Pelham started the day with a 2-0 win over Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, as Lindsey Price and Kelsey Dennis (6-2) each had an RBI. Dennis took the win in the circle with 10 strikeouts and allowed two hits.

BASEBALL

Spain Park 9, Hazel Green 5: Charlie Esskuchen drove in four runs to help Spain Park win its first game at the Gulf Shores Tournament Monday. Thomas Gallo, Josh Magette and Drew Watson each scored two runs. Spain Park over came a 4-0 deficit by scoring six runs in the fourth.

-Pleasant Grove 9, Pelham 3: Pelham was unable to counter Matt Chaney’s five RBIs, including a three-run home run, as they fell to Pleasant Grove in the Nike Gulf Shores Tournament. Andrew Bishop led the Panthers with two hits.

-Smiths Station 3, Briarwood 2: Briarwood collected only two hits, both coming in the seventh inning, as it fell to Smiths Station in the Lake Martin Classic. Ben Bracewell drove in two runs with a double, but Smith Stations’ Zachary Helewski did not allow the Lions to tie the game. Bracewell struck out six batters through six innings on the mound.

-Coosa Valley Academy 14, Warrior 4: The Coosa Valley Rebels used a six-run first inning to jump on top of Warrior and later added one in the second, and seven in the fourth, to win its second area game of the season. Jeremy Masters (1-0) collected the win, striking out eight through four innings of relief work. Brian Hurst allowed three runs in the first inning. Chase Lacey and Gage Holmes each had two hits and two RBIs, while Whit Lovelady was 1-2 with three RBIs and J.B. Ripley had two hits and an RBI. The Rebels (6-5, 2-1) were walked nine times and stole 22 bases.
