Funeral service for Vearl (Nanny) Whitten, 89, of Shelby, was at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Bolton-Letlow Chapel with the Rev. Tom Minor officiating and a eulogy by Stevie Sheffield. Burial followed at Spring Creek Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Whitten, who passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at her home, was born on Jan. 14, 1919 in Shelby County. Whitten was preceded in death by her husband, James L. (Fate) Whitten; daughter, Brenda Sheffield; son, Eugene Whitten and a granddaughter, Kathy Ann Brasher.

She is survived by her daughter, Patsy B. Moore; grandsons, Jason Brasher, Marty Brasher, Steve Sheffield, Phillip Whitten; granddaughters, Penny Moore Russ, Frankie Sheffield Payne, Susan Whitten Corley; great-grandchildren, Chandal Phillips, Taylor Parker, Celena and Chadwyn Russ, Chasity and Chase Payne, Bobby James and Nick Sheffield, Whitney and Andrea Corley and a host of other family and friends.
