Rachel Kelley blasted a two-run home run over the center field fence Tuesday to break open a 5-5 tie, giving the Hornets all the runs they would need in a 9-5 victory over Class 5A No. 2 Leeds.

Kelley’s first-ever home run propelled the Hornets who went on to score four runs in the final two innings to secure the win.

Jennifer Bradford had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and two runs in the win for Chelsea (8-8). Morgan Pence also had a pair of hits in the win, while Lindsey Pruett had two RBIs and Stephanie Hollis had a triple.

Tori Hollis picked up the win for the Hornets.

Pelham 6, Clay-Chalkville 1: Kelsey Dennis earned her 11th win of the year Tuesday, striking out nine batters, as Pelham (21-5) took down the Clay-Chalkville Cougars, 6-1. Dennis went the distance for the Panthers and gave up only seven hits. Jamie Wallace had a double, an RBI and a run scored for the Panthers.

Montevallo 6, Maplesville 4: Laci Hochstrasser (3-0) remained perfect on the season, striking out seven batters to lead Montevallo to the win Tuesday over Maplesville, 6-4. Hochstrasser was also the leading hitter for the Bulldogs (4-0), finishing with a triple and two runs scored. Haley Anderson also had a triple and an RBI in the win.

Kingwood 9-6, Bessemer 3-7: The Kingwood Christian Lions split a double-header with the Bessemer Academy Rebels on Tuesday, taking the first game 9-3 before falling in the second game, 7-6. Madeline Lee struck out seven batters and went the distance in the first game to earn the win for the Lions. Lee also hit a grand slam in the second inning to give the Lions all the runs they would need. In the second game, Whitney Gillespie was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, but it wasn’t enough as Koli Burt was 4-for-4 to lead the Rebels to victory.

Homewood 7, Briarwood 3: Mandie Lamon struck out nine batters Tuesday, but the Homewood Patriots still prevailed, taking the 7-3 victory over the Briarwood Christian Lions. Caroline Seay was 2-for-3 to lead the Lions at the plate.

Corner 5, Spain Park 1: Maria Gulas was 2-for-4 with an RBI double Tuesday, but the Spain Park Jaguars would need more offense than that as Corner took the win, 5-1
