Prep Recap: Lady Eagles soccer blanks Pelham

Shannon Lathrop collected a hat trick to lead Oak Mountain in a 7-0 shutout against Pelham on Wednesday and pull to 3-3 in Class 6A, Section 5.

Lathrop’s first goal came just three minutes into the match, scoring off a corner kick from Kendall Williamson. Lathrop assisted the next two goals for the Lady Eagles, as Morgan Motes found the net in the 21st minute followed by Andrewa Munoz in the 23rd minute. Lathrop closed the first half with a goal off an assist by Marisa Tomaszewski.

Emily Newby, Lathrop and Motes added goals in the second half, as Rachel Howell and Tomaszewski had assists.

Oak Mountain divided time in the goal between Richelle Byrd, who had one save, and Meredith Alexander, who had two saves.

Pelham’s Nora Alcaino had 16 saves.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Briarwood 1, Altamont 1: Sean Tilford scored early for Briarwood (9-5-2), but Altamont (9-1-3) managed to tie the game with a goal from Jonathon Alexander in the 60th minute of play.

BASEBALL

-Briarwood 9, Ramsay 1: Adam Russell struck out 20 in a no-hitter against Ramsay. He also drove in three runs in the win.

-Hoover 5, Oak Mountain 3: The defending Class 6A, Area 11 champion Oak Mountian Eagles fell to 0-3 in area play, as Hoover scored three runs in the fifth inning to get its second are win and move to second place behind Spain Park.

BOYS’ GOLF

-Spain Park 309, Briarwood 315: Trey Del Greco shot a 71 to lead Spain Park past Briarwood in a match at Greystone. Spain Park won its second tournament of the season Monday at the Cullman High School tournament.

Indian Springs 172, Westminster 205: Logan Burnett led Indian Springs past Westminster with a 35, while George Ryan Conner followed with a 39.
