FROM STAFF REPORTS

Commuters with Verizon Wireless cellular service no longer have to worry about hitting a delay in traffic on Interstate 65 or U.S. 280 or anywhere in the Birmingham metro area for that matter.

Verizon’s newest version of VZ Navigator, to be available this month on select consumer phones, will offer customers in 75 cities across the nation incident and traffic flow in and around their city via cell phone.

Drivers will be able to view how traffic is flowing, and receive details about reported accidents, disabled vehicles and congestion. The Networks IN Motion Traffic Tracking Center will continually monitor conditions along the customers’ routes. Detour options allow for comparison of an estimated time of arrival and conditions, before selecting a new route.

An additional feature will allow drivers to locate gas stations close to their physical location and view gas prices in the area. Once a customer selects a station, VZ Navigator can also provide turn-by-turn directions
