According to the Shelby County Board of Education, Shelby County schools are set to close at 1:30 p.m. All other school activities are also canceled.

Shelby Academy and Kingwood Christian School will also close at 1:30.

The National Weather Service has placed Shelby County under a tornado watch until 12 p.m. A weather system is moving into central Alabama from Mississippi.

Rocky Baer from the weather service said conditions are terribly unsettled. He said there was one unconfirmed tornado spotted in Colbert County this morning around 8 a.m.

Storms are expected through Friday night. Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are possible
