Erin Carpenter drove in Jordan Thompson Tuesday with a full-count single in the top of the seventh to lead Oak Mountain (28-8) past Vestavia Hills, 3-2.

Jessica Cooley scored the first run of the game for Oak Mountain in the fourth on a sacrifice bunt by Louise Gibson. Vestavia managed to tie the game in the bottom of the inning as Kate Armstrong scored on a wild pitch. The Eagles took the lead again in the seventh, when Mandy Headrick scored on an error, followed up two batters later with Carpenter’s RBI.

Vestavia rallied to score one run in the seventh, but Oak Mountain’s Julie Moss retired Vestavia’s next batter on a fly ball to center field to end the game with the tying run on third.

Moss allowed just two hits and struck out six for her first win of the season.

In other softball news:

-Hoover 9, Spain Park 0:Hoover wrapped up its No. 1 seed for next week’s area tournament with a shutout over rival Spain Park. The two will meet again in the first round of the tournament at Hoover on April 30.

-Coosa Valley19-12, Warrior 4-5: Coosa Valley Academy (2-16) ended its season on a positive note Tuesday, collecting its first wins of the season with a doubleheader sweep over area opponent Warrior. Amelia Ripley led the Lady Rebels with two hits on their way to a 19-4 victory in game one, while Tyger Paris and Tara Gutherie each had one hit. Paris led the way in the 12-5 game two victory with two hits. Sami Clinkscales and Olivia Cobb each had a hit in the second game.

-Cornerstone 19-10, Taylor Road 0-0: Chelsey Dunnaway pitched back-to-back no-hitters to lead Cornerstone to its 21st and 22nd victories of the season, extending its win streak to 48 games. Dunnaway struck out 14 in the second game. Ashley Collins was a home run shy of a cycle in game one, while driving in four runs and Jana Armstrong had three runs and four RBIs.

BASEBALL

-Cornerstone 11-4, Taylor Road 4-3: Cornerstone Christian concluded its regular season Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep over Taylor Road. The series allowed for CCS to give its pitching staff some work before the start of the playoffs Friday. Trey Benson pitched six innings of game one, while Cory Woodall and Lance Benton split time in the second game. CCS trailed 3-0 entering the seventh inning of the second game, but Jacob Henderson, Jordan Barrett and Patrick Shaw all scored on a ball hit to left field by Kirk Johnson that resulted in an error. Woodall drove in Johnson for the game-winning run. CCS will travel to South Choctaw for the first round of the AISA Class 1A playoffs Friday with a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. Game three will be Saturday at 11 a.m., if necessary.

-Evangel 4, Praise Academy 2: Grant Etheridge struck out seven while picking up the win for Evangel (7-5) over Praise Academy of Georgia. Micah Mularski had three hits and an RBI to lead the offense.

BOYS’ SOCCER

-Spain Park 5, Vestavia 3: Nathan Harris scored the game-winning goal for Spain Park with an assist from Cy Burleson in the 58th minute Tuesday to lead Spain Park past Vestavia to secure the Class 6A, Section 5 championship. Burleson tied the game in the 57th minute off an assist by Vance Curro after Vestavia scored two goals to open the second half and take a 3-2 lead. Curro also had a goal in the game.

-Oak Mountain 2, Hoover 1: Chandler Hoffman scored his second goal of the game to give Oak Mountain the lead and win over Hoover Tuesday with 8:57 left to play. Hoffman netted his 32nd goal of the year with an assist from Stefan Vaziri. Hoffman’s first goal came in the seventh minute of the game off an assist from Mason Lavallett. Hoover tied the game with 14 minutes to play. Trey Anderson had seven saves for Oak Mountain, who advances to the playoffs as Class 6A, Section 5 runner-up. The Eagles (15-7-2) conclude the regular season Thursday against Shades Valley. Playoffs begin Tuesday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

-Briarwood 0, Vestavia 0: Briarwood goalkeeper Debroah Ross collected 15 saves and Vestavia’s keeper Taylor Kerr had nine in a scoreless draw between the top-ranked teams in Class 5A and 6A.

-Spain Park 5, Oak Mountain 1: Marie Blunt had two goals and an assist and Brittany Morgan added a goal and an assist to lead Spain Park past Oak Mountain. Kim Pettit had two assists. Andrea Munoz scored for Oak Mountain.
