Melissa Calton of Alabaster has accepted the call of Community Baptist Church in Maylene to serve as the church’s bi-vocational children’s minister.

Calton began her ministry at April 27 after serving as pre-school and children’s coordinator at the First Baptist Church of Helena for more than a decade.

As Community’s children’s minister, Calton will lead the ministry that predominantly focuses on reaching, teaching and nurturing children from K5 through the fifth grade. Calton was on the Alabama State Board of Missions VBS Team in 2002 as well as serving as the Shelby Baptist Association’s VBS Director for six years

A Louisiana native, Calton and her husband, David, live in Alabaster, as do their two adult daughters and their families. Their son lives in Florida
