Soldier returns home from duty

Capt. Michael Tsimpides of Helena was among 30 members of the Alabama Army National Guard’s 621st Troop Support Command from Fort McClellan who returned home at the end of March after spending nearly a year in Iraq.

A welcome home ceremony was held at the former WAC Chapel at the center to show support for the 621st members and their families.

Brig. Gen. Fred Johnson, assistant adjutant general north for the Alabama Army National Guard, welcomed the soldiers home. The 621st members returned to Camp Shelby, Miss. April 28 to begin out-processing. The unit had been mobilized in July 2007 and deployed to Iraq a short time later
