Chemical Lime Company has announced the recipients of the “Chemical Lime Company – Tom Chambers Scholarship” awards for 2008.

The scholarship is named in honor of Tom Chambers, founder and former chief executive officer of Chemical Lime Company.

The 2008 recipients of the Tom Chambers Scholarship are graduating seniors Brooke M. Andrews, Calera High School; Amanda N. Evans, Thompson High School; and Justin Cory Hamilton, West Blocton High School.

The college scholarships are awarded annually to select graduating high school seniors who attend schools near a location where Chemical Lime has a significant manufacturing presence.

The scholarships may be awarded for eight semesters, $1,000 per semester, provided the recipient maintains at least a C-plus average in college work and takes a minimum of 12 hours each semester.

A broadly based committee of Chemical Lime employees selected Hamilton, Andrews and Evans for the awards based upon several factors: financial need, demonstrated moral integrity, involvement in outside activities, work ethic and clearly articulated career goals.

“Each year we continue to be pleased and amazed by the quality of applicants for the Tom Chambers Scholarship Program. This year’s group of applicants made our Committee’s choices difficult, but three students were particularly deserving of the award,” said Dave Randolph, director of Alabama operations for Chemical Lime Company. “Each of these fine young people has demonstrated the highest level of commitment to both academic excellence and community service.”

Brooke M. Andrews is co-captain of the cheerleading squad, a member of the National Honor Society and a volunteer with Special Olympics and Relay for Life, among others. Her GPA is 3.56 and she was voted Senior Class Favorite by her peers.

Amanda N. Evans earned a remarkable 3.9 GPA, while at Thompson High School. She has also excelled as a member and leader of the Show Choir and Vocal Ensemble. Her extra-curricular and volunteer efforts include work for the Humane Society, Give Kids the World and mission trips for her church.

Chemical Lime Company’s Alabama operations are centered in Shelby and Bibb counties, with business headquarters located at the company’s Montevallo plant.
