Lanice H. Wood will celebrate her 96th birthday with family and friends May 18.

She was born in Maylene on May 15, 1912. She served as selective service executive secretary for 21 years in Shelby County. She now lives in Columbiana with her daughter Lyn W. Loyd. Her son is Max A. Wood of Birmingham. She has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
