Russell Kenneth Goodwin, Sr.

Funeral Service for Russell Kenneth Goodwin, Sr., 82, of Birmingham, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Southern Heritage Cemetery and Funeral Home in Pelham.

Goodwin, who passed away May 21, 2008, was a veteran of World War II who served as a sergeant in the 404th Squadron of the 28th Bomb Group of the Air Force. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with bronze star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal with bronze cluster and the Victory Medal.

He graduated from Auburn University in 1948 with a degree in industrial management. Until a recent stroke, he was actively engaged in his 57-year career in insurance and financial planning.

Russell was a proud follower of Auburn football and a member of the Auburn Alumni Association for almost 60 years. An avid golfer, he combined his passion for the game with the camaraderie of clients, friends and family.

He is survived by his spouse, Judy Goodwin; sister, Sharlene Skinner; four daughters; two sons; thirteen children and two great-grandchildren.
