Company holds Community Open House

Southern Lime Company in Calera held a Community Open House May 17. The festivities began at 10 a.m. and lasted until 2 p.m. Community members received the opportunity to take a tour through the plant, control room and testing lab.

The day wasn’t all work and no play. Kids and parents alike also enjoyed inflatable slides, face painting, popcorn and snow cones.

Throughout the day families could also participate in several carnival-style activities such as bowling, put-put golf, go fish and pick up ducks. Guests could even win toys and candy as prizes.

Information about Southern Lime and its products was on display, alongside facts and figures about the uses of lime in everyday Life. Company representatives explained the work the company does on a daily basis.

Southern Lime is owned by Unimin Corporation of New Canaan, Conn. From its beginning in 1970, Unimin has grown to be one of the world’s leading industrial minerals producers. Unimin acquired the Southern Lime facility in August 2007, and continue to demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction and sound environmental stewardship
