FROM STAFF REPORTS

Former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy currently sits in the Shelby County jail waiting to answer further questions about fraud at the rehabilitation company. Hearings for several investor lawsuits begin Monday.

Federal law enforcement agents brought Scrushy to the jail around 10 p.m. Wednesday night. He was transferred there from a federal prison in Texas.

A jury acquinted Scrushy of all fraud charges involving the rehabilitation center, but he was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2006 for his part in a state bribery scheme with former Gov. Don Siegelman.

Scrushy was brought to Shelby County because of a contract the county has with the U.S. Marshal’s Service Northern District of Alabama to house federal inmates. He will remain here until removed by the Marshal’s Service
