The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a child’s death in North Shelby County.

Police found a young girl dead around 9 p.m. Monday night in a home in the 5000 block of Kerry Downs Road. An alive but unresponsive man was also found inside the home.

The sheriff’s office has released few details about the ongoing case, pending notification of next of kin.

The death has not been ruled a homicide.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene Monday, they found the girl dead. The Sheriff Office’s Tactical Response Unit later entered the house and found the man, who was transported to a local hospital, where he remains.

Capt. Ken Burchfield said more information would be released as it becomes available or if any criminal charges are filed.
