Troy Lee Lawley

Troy Lee Lawley, age 84, of Tuscaloosa (formerly of Alabaster) died June 20, 2008, at Hospice of West Alabama.
Services for Mr. Lawley were held Monday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster with the Rev. Mark Davenport and the Rev. Sandy Felkins, of Hargrove Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation for friends and family began at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
He is preceded in death by his father, Willie Elbert Lawley; mother, Josephine Lawley Seales; sisters, Eloise Thomas and Mollie Walton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Myrtle Collins Lawley; daughters, Sandi Rudd (Mack) of Montgomery and Terri McCollum (Bert) of Tuscaloosa; brother, Carlise Lawley (Marie) of Jemison; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lawley served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific and received the Combat Infantry Badge. He later served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was self-employed as an automotive mechanic for 30 years before starting Metro Basketball Goals, Inc. with partner, Ron Jones. He was actively involved in church, civic and multiple volunteer activities throughout his life. During this time, he received the Civitan Citizen of the Year Award. He loved woodworking, gardening, camping with friends and especially spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, Ala. 35404.
