Funeral service for Jackie Ray Shirley, age 59, of Columbiana, was Tuesday, July 8 at 2 p.m. at Columbiana Church of the Nazarene with full military honors. Burial followed at Pinelawn Gardens. Visitation was Monday, July 7 at the church from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Shirley passed away Friday, July 4, 2008. He was a member of Columbiana Church of the Nazarene and was retired from the 117th Air Refueling Wing of the Alabama Air National Guard. He touched so many with his genuine concern and kindness and considered each day a blessing from the Lord even in his illness. Mr. Shirley was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Shirley was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Shirley.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Shirley; daughter, Heather (Jonathan) Venable; son, Richard (Joyce) Hilburn; three grandchildren, Heather and Josh Gibson and Aiden Venable; mother, Lula Fowler; sister, Rita Hassett; brothers, Kenneth (Dot) Shirley and Jimmy (Debbie) Shirley; and a host of other family and friends.
