Youth golf clinic to kickoff Junior Am

Shoal Creek Golf Club will host the “Catch the Spirit” golf clinic Sunday at 2 p.m. to kickoff the U.S. Juniot Amateur Championship that will run from July 21-26.

More than 50 young golfers are expected to attend the clinic offered by past U.S. Open champion Hubert Green, Shoal Creek head professional Eric Williamson and Eric Eshleman, head professional at the Country Club of Birmingham.

In addition, a check presentation will be made by U.S. Golf Association Executive Committee member Fredric Nelson to the First Tee Program of Birmingham.

The clinic is free of charge and open to the public. Parking will be available at the Club.

The U.S. Junior Amateur, for boys age 17 and younger, begins Monday at Shoal Creek. The schedule includes two rounds of stroke play and six rounds of match play, running through Saturday. It is one of 13 national championships conducted by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs. Admission for the championship is free.
