Cheramis kick off summer season

Members of the Cheramis Dance Club stepped out of their dancing shoes for a moment June 22 to enjoy a lovely picnic lunch on the grounds of the Montevallo home of Cheramis member Elaine Hughes and her husband, Bobby.

The old barn, which was the setting of the party, was decorated with checkered tablecloths topped with candles giving the barn a soft glow. The picnic tables were decorated with clay pots filled with multi-colored zinnias and Gerbera daisies. The casual atmosphere was accented by the décor of the barn – filled with garden tools, relics of hunting and fishing expeditions, antique pot-bellied stoves and cooking utensils and souvenirs from past political campaigns. Rocking chairs and swings were filled with members enjoying the warm afternoon in the shade of the trees, while others coversed over over billiards and tossing washers. Guests enjoyed toe-tapping music playing in the background during a dinner of delicious hors d’oeuvres furnished by Cheramis members followed by barbequed pork and barbequed chicken served with all the fixin’s.

Shelby County residents enjoying the event were guests Marilyn Kelly with Willie Larson, both of Calera, Alice and Tony Ellison of North Shelby and Mary and Elmer Klemenc of Maylene.
