Gov. Bob Riley announced a $5,000 reward Friday for information that helps police solve a Pelham murder.

Maria “Daisy” Garcia, 32, was found dead July 27 in a car off Stonehaven Trail. She died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the governor’s office.

Police believe Garcia was on her way to work and may have stopped to speak to someone she knew.

Garcia was a native of El Salvador and went by several other names, including Luz Rivera DeGarcia and Daisy Xiomara De-Rivera, according to police.

Riley announced the reward Friday, hoping tips from the public will help crack the case.

“I hope this reward will help lead police to Ms. Garcia’s killer so justice can be served,” said Riley. “In so many cases, tips from the public help law enforcement identify the perpetrator.”

Investigators continue to look into the murder. Anyone with information about the crime should call Pelham Police at 620-6550.

Officers are especially interested in talking with anyone who was in the area between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. that Sunday morning.

Stonehaven Trail runs between Shelby County 52 and U.S. 31 and is often used as a shortcut between the two highways.

The death was Pelham’s first homicide of the year.
