Monika Tortorici has been named to the Pre-Season All-Gulf South Conference volleyball team for the third consecutive season.

Torotorici led the University of Montevallo last season in service aces per game (.51), along with blocks (110). She was also second on the team in blocks per game (.88) and third in kills per game (2.36).

Freshman Anna Garrison, a 5-foot-4 setter from LaVergne, Tenn., was named a Top Newcomer in the East Division.

UM was picked to finish seventh in the East in the SC coaches’ poll.

The University of West Florida was picked first, collecting 35 points. UWF edged out University of North Alabama (32), who was picked to finish first in 2007.

UM will begin its season in Memphis, Tenn. at a tournament hosted by Christian Brothers University Aug. 29-30
