Even at political campaign meetings across the county, the talk this time of year is about one thing — football.

A few communities can get their first look at their favorite teams, from age 5-18, this weekend with many schools and youth programs hosting intrasquad scrimmages on Saturday.

-Montevallo will move its annual Meet the Bulldogs event to Theron Fisher Field, turning it into an inaugural Bulldog Day. The varsity team will kick off the day with an introduction of players and coaches, followed by a scrimmage at 10 a.m. The youth teams will follow during the all-day event.

-Chelsea will host its Blue and White Day on Saturday. Youth games will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 2:30 p.m. The middle school will follow, and then the Chelsea varsity will take the field at 4 p.m. Inflatables will be available for the kids.

-The annual Oak Mountain Community Day and fish fry will begin at 4 p.m. and run through the night at Heardmont Park. The 80-pound teams will divide into Blue v. Red to start the scrimmages. Youth teams and cheerleaders will follow, and then the seventh grade at 6:40 p.m. The Oak Mountain HIgh School dance team and cheerleaders perform at 7:05 p.m., followed by the eighth grade team, freshmen and high school band performance. The junior varsity and varsity will take the field at 8:40 p.m.

-Pelham’s Green and Gold youth games will begin Friday at Ned Bearden Stadium when the Pelham 80-pounders meets Helena at 6 p.m. The 90-pounders follow at 7:15 and the 105-pound team plays at 8 p.m.On Aug. 16, the 120-pound teams will play at 4 p.m. followed by the 130-pounders at 4:45 p.m.

-Spain Park’s Jag Day begins at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Hoover Rec. teams playing first, followed by Berry Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade teams at 5 p.m.. Spain Park’s freshman, junior varsity and varsity will play from 6-9 p.m. Inflatables and food will help add to the fun at Jaguar Stadium.

-The Thompson Quarterback Club’s inaugural Warrior Day will go from 3-8 p.m. Saturday, and will feature scrimmages of players in grades 1-12. The city of Alabaster will show “We Are Marshall” following the scrimmages at Simmons Field.
