The 10th-annual CASA Roast will honor Shelby County District Attorney Robby Owens. It will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the Pelham Civic Complex.

The event will begin with a silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and roast at 6:30 p.m.

With many years as the Shelby County District Attorney, there are sure to be multiple people who would like to take some hits at him. The question is who? How many?

Assistant District Attorney Bill Bostick is set to be the lead roaster with former Assistant District Attorney and current Executive Director of the State District Attorney’s Association Randy Hillman up to bat second. It could be a case of good cop, bad cop, but I doubt it. It will more likely be bad cop, worse cop.

Owens is such a laidback, nice, All-American good guy that some people think the roast could be boring. However, the staff of the District Attorney’s Office and half the attorneys in the county don’t think so. With as many years of experience as Owens has there have to be a few mistakes he has made along the way.

I am sure someone from his office will be happy to share each and every one of them with the audience that will gather for the event.

Owens is known for his humility. It is a good thing too because when this 10th annual roast is over he is sure to be hu-mil-ia-ted.

CASA is a non-profit organization, which recruits and trains volunteers to go through the court process with abused and neglected children. Volunteers advocate for the best interests of the children they serve.

Tickets for the event are $100 per person for open seating and $1,000 per corporate sponsorship, which includes a dinner table, listing in the event program and verbal recognition throughout the evening.
