Offering information, screenings to residents

Organizers of a Chelsea Open House and Health Fair tomorrow hope to better inform residents of the services available to them in their hometown.

“At the end of last year we realized we had a lot of physicians asking about a health fair, plus a committee called the Spirit of Chelsea was interested in promoting the quality of life here,” said South Shelby Chamber of Commerce director Stacy Walkup. “So, we just thought the best way to do that would be to host a one-stop-shop event.”

The event will be held at Chelsea City Hall from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Walkup said it will include information from various medical practices, as well as real estate agents and developers promoting various subdivisions.

A variety of health screenings will also be available including glucose, cholesterol, body mass index, scholiosis, blood pressure, sports injury and eye tests.

“The neat thing about this is there are a lot of people reluctant to go to the doctor but this gives the community the chance to meet one on one with a medical professional without the fear of an office,” Walkup said. “Just one blood pressure test could save someone’s life.”

Also on hand will be various financial centers, pest control companies and the Shelby County Humane Society with pets for adoption.
