While six of Hoover’s seven council seats were unopposed, the one up for grabs is still undecided after Tuesday night’s elections.

There will be a runoff between John Greene and Jim Brown to settle the Place 7 race. Greene got 1,058 votes, or 40 percent, while Brown got 903 votes, or 34 percent. Jon R. “Rusty” Creel Sr., the other candidate for Place 7, got 692 votes, or 26 percent.

In addition to the six unopposed seats, unchallenged Mayor Tony Petelos coasted into his second term.

Petelos said he wanted to continue the work started in his first term as Hoover mayor.

“The city of Hoover is a great place to live and a great place to raise a family. And we just want to continue to make Hoover the best place to live and raise a family,” he said.

Petelos said he plans to focus on public safety and on parks and recreation as his first priorities in his second term.

Since almost the entire council is back for a second term, it’ll make things easier to accomplish, he said.

“Four years ago, I was the new kid on the block, and we have four years under our belt with this administration,” Petelos said. “We have six council members coming back, which is unprecedented in this city. For a city this size to have six council members unopposed is remarkable. We have a good team.”

The unopposed City Council members include Trey Lott, Place 1; Gene Smith, Place 2; Mari Morrison, Place 3; Gary Ivey, Place 4; Jack Wright, Place 5; and Brian Skelton, Place 6.
