Police have identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run Tuesday morning.

Tomas Barron, 26, died after being struck while walking near the intersection of Highways 10 and 17.

Montevallo Police Chief Kevin Peters hopes his department will soon be able to release a car description.

“We’re still gathering information at this time,” said Peters. “We’re looking at some forensic evidence.”

Peters believes the driver lives in Montevallo and is too scared to come forward.

“This will be someone who lives around here, and they’re scared to death,” said Peters. “We have a family that is hurt, and they need closure … accidents happen.”

Barron was hit around 2 a.m. Tuesday. A passerby found him in the road and called police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peters said Tuesday’s dark and rainy conditions might have played a role in the hit-and-run.

Peters asked anyone with information to call the Montevallo Police Department at 665-2552.
