The Pelham Panthers Boys&8217; Tennis Team (9-2) came looking for consistency as they entered Thursday&8217;s match with Oak Mountain (4-8) and got just that with a 6-3 win at Pelham City Park.

John Flaniken helped lead the way for the Panthers with a No. 1 singles win over Oak Mountain&8217;s Dalton Walsh 6-2, 6-1. Also big was the No. 1 doubles victory with Flaniken and John McKay edging Walsh and Jonathan Lenning 10-7 in a 10-game-pro-set.

&8220;This is a huge improvement from the beginning of the year,&8221; said Pelham coach April Wilson. &8220;We&8217;re confident heading into sectionals.&8221;

Oak Mountain&8217;s highlight was a No. 3 doubles victory with Ryan Rudman and Clark Andrich rallying from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Pelham duo Matt Snow and Connor Portwood 10-8 in a 10-game pro-set.

&8220;I was really proud to see them not give up,&8221; said Oak Mountain coach Carl Lett. &8220;It showed some real resiliency. But overall, we just didn&8217;t play well.&8221;

The match concluded the regular season for Pelham, as they await their spot as the No. 1 seed at sectionals on April 26 in Tuscaloosa.

Oak Mountain travels to Hewitt-Trussville on April 23 before heading into sectionals on April 25
