Patricia Mungenast Smith was recently awarded the Distinguished Citizen Award in the Field of Government by Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity in June 2008.

The Distinguished Citizen Award was established in 1959 to recognize alumnae members of the fraternity for outstanding professional and community achievement.

This award is presented to women who are outstanding in their professions or in civic, organizational, cultural or charitable work in ways that demonstrate the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose. Smith’s lifetime commitment to juvenile justice issues earned her this prestigious award.

One of Alabama’s longest serving judges, Smith currently serves as Associate Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.

A graduate of Troy University, Smith was a charter member of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity. She received her law degree from Jones School of Law in 1976.
