After a loss to rival Cornerstone Christian last week, Coosa Valley Academy came back to win it’s second area game against Dixie Academy 19-6, making the Rebels undefeated in regional play.

Though the Rebels got the win, head coach Steven Mackin said the team didn’t play as well as they did against their next-door rivals.

“We played better last week against Cornerstone,” Mackin said. “We didn’t play very well, but we played well enough to win. It was ugly, but we got the win we needed.”

Despite a disappointing game last week, the Rebels’ defense was able to keep Dixie to one touchdown in the first quarter.

“Our defense played good enough to keep them out of the end zone (in three out of four quarters),” Mackin said.

The Rebels offense was able to quench three of the four touchdowns scored during the night and started off the game with a run by Phillip Neal in the first quarter to put Coosa Valley up. After a blocked punt by Dixie, the home team was able to tie the score in the first quarter.

Once the Rebels came back out from half time, though, it was all Coosa Valley. Whit Lovelady scored the second touchdown of the game in the third quarter. To claim the win, Whit Lovelady passed to J.B. Ripley.

Next week, Coosa Valley will take on South Montgomery, another region game, for homecoming.
