Lightning still rumbling at perfect 6-0

The Evangel Lightning earned another shutout victory Friday night by taking a 53-0 win over Heritage.

The Lightning jumped out to a 16-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Evangel added 22 more points in the second quarter, eight in the third and seven in the final quarter.

Offensively for the Lightning (6-0, 3-0), Hunter Burridge ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns, including runs of 45, 35 and 3 yards.

Quarterback Henry Foster accounted for 69 yards and two touchdowns on a 25-yard run and a 20-yard pass.

Jakan Sylestine also accounted for a pair of touchdowns off of a 1-yard run and a 29-yard run.

Defensively for the Lightning, Luke Webb had a team-high 13 tackles and an interception, followed by Foster with seven tackles and Collin Hipps with five tackles. The Lightning defense also recovered three fumbles on the night.

On a down note, Wesley Dean went down with a knee injury and it is not certain whether the injury is season-ending. Dean will have an MRI Monday to determine the extent of the injury.

The Lightning return to action Friday as they travel to Huntsville to take on Freedom.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
