The Montevallo Branch of the American Association of University Women will host a runoff candidates forum on Friday, Oct. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at Parnell Memorial Library.

Mayoral candidates Ben McCrory and Steven Sears and District 1 candidates Patrick Draper and Rusty Nix have confirmed their attendance, said AAUW President Treasure Ingels-Thompson.

During the first half of the debate, the candidates will be asked 10 questions that have been prepared by AAUW. The candidates will take questions from the audience during the latter half.

Chartered at Montevallo in 1927, AAUW aims to increase awareness of diversity issues related to gender, race, creed, sexual orientation, national origin and disability.

AAUW’s theme this election year is “Ready to Run.” Ingels-Thompson said AAUW will approach the debate from a non-partisan perspective.

“Our immediate goal is to have a high voter turnout, and we’re hoping to generate new interest in campaigns,” Ingels-Thompson said.
