Mayor Allan Lowe leads opponent Gregg Rushton in a race too close to call.

Lowe earned 519 votes to Rushton’s 515. There are still nine provisional ballots that won’t be certified until Tuesday.

“I think it’s still up for grabs,” said Lowe. “Hopefully, in the next few days, we’ll have a better idea.

While Lowe wasn’t ready to declare victory, Rushton said he doubts the result will change.

“Generally speaking, provisional votes are usually spilt,” said Rushton. “We put on a very good debate. The closeness of the vote reflects that.”

If the outcome holds up, Lowe said he wants to focus on developing an industry park, recruiting business and improving parks and recreation.

In District 3, Jim Strickland defeated Brian Stevens, 159 votes to 140.

56 more people voted in the runoff than in August’s general election.
