Let the bidding wars begin.

Workers at the Starbucks, located in the Alabaster Promonade, hope to see their store flooded with eager customers this weekend wanting more than a cup of coffee.

A handful of paintings and dozens of Koozies are up for grabs to the highest bidder during a silent auction that culminates at 3 p.m. Saturday.

“Hopefully we’ll have lots of people in here to see what they can do to make sure their bids win the items they chose,” said store manager Scott Terry.

Items up for bid include paintings by local artist Wendy Lovoy of Sips N’ Strokes and specialized koozies designed by Shannon Herwitz of Temptations Jewelry Sales and others hand-knitted by local residents.

Terry said bids for the largest painting by Lovoy are up to $350. Store employees hope to raise at least $2,000, which will all benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.

“We have the ability to do things that contribute to our community and since Starbucks supports the Susan B. Komen Foundation, one of our employees suggested we do something locally,” Terry said.
