Friday started with Cornerstone’s Cory Woodall being named the Army Iron Man of the Week for Alabama and ended with three touchdowns and 180 yards rushing to lift Cornerstone over Abbeville, 40-6.

Abbeville scored its only touchdown in the first quarter. Woodall gave Cornerstone the lead, 13-7, with runs of 58 and 43 yards for touchdowns in the second quarter.

J.V. McKinney opened the second half with a 9-yard touchdown run, while Woodall followed moments later on a 2-yard run.

Brandon Johnson and McKinney both had interception returns for a touchdown from more than 60 yards out and Johnson added a fourth-quarter touchdown on a 73-yard run.

The Chargers ran for 383 yards on 26 carries, but CCS head coach Tim Smith was not pleased with throwing just three passes.

“We really wanted to thrown the ball more tonight, but once it started raining we got back in the I,” Smith said.

Junior safety Patrick Shaw led the Chargers’ defense with 13 tackles.

Cornerstone travels to Ashford next a Friday.
